Biography
Michel Van den Bergh (born July 25, 1960) is a Belgian mathematician. Van den Bergh is a professor at Vrije Universiteit Brussel and conducts research at Hasselt University. His research focuses on the fundamental relationship between algebra and geometry. In 2003, his work was awarded the Francqui Prize in exact sciences.
Van den Bergh studied at the University of Antwerp with Freddy Van Oystaeyen and Jan Van Geel and obtained his doctorate there in 1985 for a thesis entitled Algebraic Elements in Finite Dimensional Division Algebras. He obtained his aggregate for higher education at the same institution in 1990.
