Leandro Vendramin will give a talk on Tuesday talks on February 10th.
The Inverse Galois Problem asks whether every finite group occurs as a Galois group over the rationals. In this talk, I will first introduce the Inverse Galois Problem, discussing its history, main challenges, and some classic developments. I will then turn to the group theory of the Rubik’s Cube and prove that the Rubik’s Cube group is a Galois group. Finally, I will discuss how other puzzle groups can be realized as Galois groups.
